SCYC Wins Regional Sailing Championship
Our racing team brought home the trophy from the North Wales Regional Championships, with outstanding performances across multiple classes.
Outstanding Performance at Regional Championships
South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club has once again proven its excellence in competitive sailing by winning the prestigious North Wales Regional Championships. The event, held over three days in challenging conditions off the coast of Anglesey, saw our club's sailors demonstrate exceptional skill and determination.
Race Results
Our success was built on consistent performances across multiple sailing classes:
- Laser Class: First place - Sarah Williams
- RS Aero: Second place - Mark Thompson
- Optimist: First place - Emma Davies (Junior Champion)
- 420 Class: First place - James Roberts & Lucy Evans
Challenging Conditions
The championship was held in particularly challenging weather conditions, with winds ranging from 15-25 knots and occasional squalls. These conditions tested the sailors' skills to the limit and made for exciting racing throughout the weekend.
"The conditions were tough, but our sailors showed real character and skill," commented Racing Captain Mike Johnson. "The hours of training in Cardigan Bay have clearly paid off, and I'm incredibly proud of the entire team."
Looking Ahead
This victory qualifies SCYC to represent North Wales at the National Championships to be held in Portsmouth this September. The club is already making preparations for this prestigious event.
Training sessions for the national championships will begin next month, and all club members are invited to support our representatives as they prepare for this exciting challenge.
